Great seafood in the North Georgia mountains?
Oh, yes! You will find it at the American Catch Seafood Exchange located just off the Town Square in Blairsville.
The focus is on fresh caught seafood prepared to present it at its peak. On the menu you will find a wide variety ranging from Maine Lobster to crawfish and oysters.
Recently, as a party of four celebrating a birthday, we had dinner there. We found a casual atmosphere and an efficient and congenial staff. Selecting from the First Cast appetizers we decided to bypass the piscatorial offerings to try the fried ramps, a first for all of us. The tasty crisp crusted greens were a delicious prediction of good things to come.
The special of the evening was Monk’s fish selected by two, one chose The Haul, a platter of crawfish, calamari, oysters, shrimp and catfish with my choice, grilled rainbow trout.
Sides included their home cooked potato chips, hush puppies, collard greens. grits and salads. We shared the collards, a bit spicy, crunchy hush puppies, tasty grits, the chips and a salad with a variety of vegetables.
Conversation was limited during dinner to comments of “isn’t this good:..”want a bite of mine?”…as we were too busy savoring our food.
Despite little room for dessert our birthday girl ordered the panne cotta and another chose the bread pudding with bourbon crème anglaise. The winner—the bread pudding. The sauce was awesome. No spirits are served at the restaurant but diners are permitted to bring their own wine and glasses are provided at no charge.
We left after an evening of enjoying great food served by a most competent staff and we all agreed we would be returning to the American Catch…soon.
